And the spinning starts…
Hmm… This blog is the brainchild of a discussion I had with my best friend (a.k.a. my boyfriend) and another discussion I had with my best-est friend (a.k.a. my best friend).
Both of them want me to start a blog. And for opposite reasons. While one thinks I write well, and everybody should get to read what I write, the other thinks I write utter trash and that is precisely why I should put it up (because utter trash is always hilarious and sense is never interesting; and we should have our share of revenge on the world!). In case you got it wrong, it is my boyfriend who thinks I write trash. L
Anyway, I was wondering what title I should give it etc, and around the same time, he had been reading some blog post I had shared on reader, and he quite innocently asked me "What is koora pudavai?"
And lo and behold! In a magical transmission of dopamine and serotonin and other weird molecules to and from my brain, this blog was born.
You see, I think it's quite funny for ANYbody to ask ME that question. Hailing from the Agmark Tamil Brahmin house, to me, not knowing koora pudavai is like not knowing your own name, and the fact that my own boyfriend asks such a question really drives me nuts laughing. But more about that later on.
Anyway, I thought that I MUST enlighten the world of the existence of koora pudavai and dadiyonam and kathrikka karamedhu (also called karamudhu) and exquisite rarities like that, so I started typing right away.
And here is the first thing that came to MY mind when I thought of pudavai-
So early in the morning,
So early in the morning,
So early in the morning,
Before the break of moon
Once I went to a pudavai kadai
There I saw some pattu pudavai
Some are having voil pudavai
But I have only this kanda pudavai.
(So early …)
And you can be assured this blog is gonna be something like this song!
P.S.
That song is not my own. It is something I heard when I was a child.
P.S. 2-
My BF is asking what is voil pudavai. So let me include a mini dictionary here-
koora pudavai= silk saree worn by the bride
koora= roof
pudavai= saree
dadiyonam= (tasty) thayir saadam= curd rice
kathrikka = brinjal
karamedhu = curry
pattu= silk
voil= cheap synthetic
kanda(l)= torn
